When art is a way of life...
I think I have been dabbling in the ‘art’ space all my life. I have always loved creating things – I used to play with calligraphers quills and doodle when I was much younger. I even remember rewriting all my study notes just so they could look ‘pretty‘ on reference- all colour coded with unique header styles. Anything to inject something a little different into the project. As I grew into adulthood, the straight art was put on hold and this creativity morphed into experimenting with baking in my spare time alongside constantly re-imagining the rooms in our house.

​I used my point of difference to find intuitive ways to problem solve at work too – always design led. I remember having a conversation in an office once about how I had come up with the organisational system and in truth, the only answer I had was, I had just needed it to look better! It was born out of a need to balance the way everything worked in a more pleasing, aesthetical way. That’s just the way my brain works. I’ve always been able to see things in a different way and ever since then, I have been learning to lean into that, to let it permeate all areas of my life.
My office based career ended 4 years ago and since then I have been running my other small business full time; Bitesize Bakehouse. In 6 years (the first two were part time around my other job!) I’ve grown this award winning home based bakery around my two kids and now provide wedding cakes and postal treats (chocolate, marshmallows and brownies) all across the UK.
It’s allowed my creativity to flow in a more direct route via sketch designing bespoke tiered cakes, taking part in styled shoots and bringing together collections of seasonal chocolates and marshmallows that has filled me with so much joy. Most importantly though, it has afforded me the time to indulge passions I didn’t have time to enjoy whilst I was locked to office hours and that has meant finding my art again.

Very quickly, I realised I was feeling held back by only producing pieces that filled a space in my home. So, I started to make pieces for other peoples homes. It allowed a freedom to my art that was so much fun… and I just haven’t stopped. That led me to now, and starting Alma Cara Studio with my sister, Paris.

I would love my addition to this field to be purposeful, just like it’s sister business, Bitesize Bakehouse.
My aim is to provide pieces that work towards the ‘Slow Fashion & Interiors’ movement. I hope for my art to have longevity with you, that it might grow with your life and be an investment that becomes moulded around.

I am a massive book worm and always looking for a good recommendation. Currently partial to a fantasy romance or dark thriller but will read most things given half the chance. :-)
